Regular readers of my blog will know about my obsession with Instagram-worthy cafés. When I booked my tickets to Nha Trang, not only did I have to choose the most photogenic hotel to stay at, but I also made sure to find a list of chic cafés to visit. Alpaca Homestyle Café was definitely on top of the list, coming up as the most frequently praised eatery on the internet. With chill vibes, good food and sunlit seating, it definitely proves its ranks.
It’s not difficult to see why Alpaca Homestyle Café is so popular with locals, expats and tourists alike. It looks exactly as it does in photos, and the ambience is exactly what you would anticipate. To my delight, the little café wasn’t packed with customers when I visited, so I was able to enjoy my brunch slowly on a peaceful Thursday morning.
Alpaca Homestyle Café moved to a larger location shortly after my visit, but the concept and decor remain the same.
Just like Hong Kong’s array of local restaurants, the entrance to Alpaca Homestyle Café is well camouflaged in a tiny, inconspicuous doorway that hides a staircase leading upstairs. You’ll know when you find it thanks to the cheery decorations that jump out on grimy streets. Inside, the café is furnished with a host of mismatched chairs tucked beneath six to seven tables and the walls are adorned with lighthearted quotes. A small sofa next to the kitchen counter offers a spot where customers can take photos and flip through an assortment of free magazines. There’s a lot packed into the cosy space, but that’s what gives Alpaca Homestyle Café its unique character.
Alpaca Homestyle Café is the perfect place for western food in Nha Trang if you’re missing a piece of home. The café is always experimenting with new recipes and new items are added to their menu every now and then. Besides the typical pasta and salads, the chefs also cook up a mean Mediterranean meal using a fusion of spices and herbs. Everything is reasonably portioned and priced. Since I went for brunch, I decided to order a breakfast spread and a salad. The food came with a complimentary bread platter, which was a nice touch!
If my stay in Nha Trang hadn’t been limited to five days only, I would’ve returned to Alpaca Homestyle Café every day to work on my laptop. It’s close to my hotel, it has great food and best of all, free wifi. On a typical weekday, it isn’t crowded, so I could lounge around by the balcony from dawn to dusk… ah, if only vacations lasted forever, eh?
