From the same people behind highly popular café The Baristro, comes Brown Café Chiang Mai, a photogenic Japanese-style coffee house on Nimmanhaemin Road. Although not as popular as its sister café, the architecture and interior design of Brown Café Chiang Mai, likewise, offer aesthetic angles worthy of sharing on social media.
The inspiration behind Brown Café Chiang Mai’s design is from the architectural models of Japan, but the café itself doesn’t serve Japanese food. Instead, the photogenic space draws up a menu of popular Taiwanese snacks and drinks. It’s a quirky pairing, but one that seems to work, judging by the crowds of trendy youngsters inside.
The interior design of Brown Café Chiang Mai is similar to its sister café, The Baristro, but instead of an all-white theme, Brown Café Chiang Mai incorporates light wooden shades into its furnishing. The result is a space reminiscent of Japanese coffee houses, which are often scattered with green plants to take on a minimal and natural design. With a simple colour palette of only white, grey and brown, the café offers a clean canvas that feels comfortable on the eyes on afternoons when there is natural light filtering in.
It sounds silly, but if you’re ever hankering for a taste of Taiwan in a Japanese-style café in Thailand, then Brown Café Chiang Mai has got you all set. It’s best known for its shaved ice dessert made with ingredients imported from Taiwan, but also serves up other favourites like bubble tea, taro balls and grass jelly.
Pictured is the Earl Grey Latte with a Taiwanese twist: the addition of tapioca balls. Positive points for the creative concept, but negative points for the taste. The drink comes out too sweet and milky, overdrowning any taste of tea. Stick to black tea or go for a shaved ice dessert instead.
Brown Café Chiang Mai is definitely one place not to miss out on if you love design or if you have an affinity for sweet treats. Its cosy atmosphere makes for a great spot for a bite of dessert with friends. And if you’re worried about your weight, let me just remind you that grass jelly is healthier than ice cream, so feel free to go all out! 😉
