Where I live, the weather rarely drops below 10ºC, but as someone who can barely stand anything under 25ºC, I need all the help I can get in keeping me warm. The temperature is at a no-nonsense low this month, so naturally, it’s time for my chunky cardigan to come out to play.
If you think the chunky cardigan is just a piece of cloth to keep the cold away, though, you’re wrong. It’s also an excellent candidate to cover up the unwanted Dad bod most of us seem to gain at the tail of summer. Plus, it’s pretty dang stylish too. Now if that isn’t enough convincing enough for you to get yourself one, then I don’t know what is.

Let’s begin with the Green Chunky Cardigan (link here). It’s a generic piece found everywhere and offered by pretty much every clothing brand. The cardigan I’m wearing is by the popular Japanese label Global Work and fits perfectly. You don’t want anything too form-fitting when it comes to the chunky cardigan, so if you can, go a size up when shopping.
Another essential to combat the cold in winter is a thick, oversized scarf. My White Scarf (link here) is a budget-friendly buy from Hong Kong’s famed thrift mall, Argyle Centre. Don’t let the price tag make you doubt it, though. The quality is great and it keeps me all toasty even when it’s 10ºC out.
The best thing about culottes is that they’re trendy any time of the year. I’m a culottes fanatic and for this outfit, dug out my Grey Striped Culottes (link here) from, once again, Argyle Centre. The neutral grey shade complements the deep green of the chunky cardigan and the wide cut of the pants gives the look an unconventional finish.
The outfit cannot be complete without a pair of chunky Nike Air Force 1‘s (link here) to accompany the chunky cardigan, chunky scarf and chunky pants. Do you see the pattern here? The idea is that the bigger the silhouette of the pieces, the better… and the warmer.
Lastly, top off the look with the Green Cotton Canvas Bag (link here). The swamping chunkiness of the rest of your pieces won’t lend you much mobility, so skip all the dinky handbags and go straight for the wide-mouthed canvas bag. With it, not only do you not need to bother with annoying clasps anymore, but you finally have a bag that fits all your makeup inside, too.
Warm and comfortable, isn’t that what clothes were invented for in the first place, anyway? Take it from me, a chunky cardigan won’t disappoint this winter. In fact, it’s essential for survival. If you have one yourself, let me know in the comments below how you like to style yours!
