I’m not a sporty person, but I admit that the whole “live well” trend gets to me. Sometimes, a girl just gotta have those hiking photos in her Instagram feed, okay? Unfortunately, I’m not much of an exerciser. I don’t have abs of steel. That’s why, when I stumbled across Hon Chong during my trip to Nha Trang, I knew it was the perfect place for lazy people like me to snap some deceiving outdoor photos.
Hon Chong is more than just another beach. Walk a little further and you’ll find a cluster of rocks that hides a gem of a sea view. And best of all, it’s easily accessible by the ordinary layman. It’s a stunning place you should definitely add to your itinerary if you want some nature-esque photos for your trip in Nha Trang.
Here are three reasons why you should visit Hon Chong…
1. It’s not “just rocks”
When I peered at the Tripadvisor page for Hon Chong after visiting, there was one review that caught my eye, titled “just rocks”. Excuse me, what do you mean just rocks? I suppose it is true in a way, but hey, that’s what makes Hon Chong a great place for couch potatoes like me. Not only is the climb to the final sea view easy, but the rock formation is also photogenic in its own right. Because of the swarm of tourists around, though, you may have to wait a bit before you’re able to snap the perfect photo.
2. It’s an effortless sea view
Hiking for four hours before arriving at the summit? Who even has time for that? My kind of therapy is binging on my favourite TV shows, not getting sunburnt in the heat, thank you very much. Luckily, the path to Hon Chong’s sea view is manageable by even the most unfit of all people. A short two-minute climb brings you to the tip of the rocks, where you’ll be awarded the gorgeous horizon of the South China Sea. From there, you’re free to snap away, my friends!
3. It offers speciality coffee
To reward yourself for the short two-minute journey out to sea, sit back at the adjacent café and cool off with a cup of traditional Vietnamese coffee. Unfortunately, I had just missed the regular live musical show at the café, but I did have fun sipping my cool coffee while looking on in amusement at some arguing Chinese tourists – even better drama than the musical, if you ask me.
If there’s one gripe I have about Hon Chong, it’s the fact that it’s always swarming with tourists. Photo taking is probably going to take longer than you expect as you have to wait in line to get the best shot, but in my opinion, the scene is worth it. Hon Chong is not a tourist trap for nothing. Anything for the ‘Gram, am I right, ladies?
