I’m a big fan of lazy outfit formulas. I mean, I wrote a whole post featuring my go-to winter fashion secrets, a set of rules I use for dressing when it’s cold. Throwing on an oversized jumper may seem counterintuitive when it’s not winter, but it works in spring and summer too, and here’s how I do it.
Everyone has their lazy days. My lazy days are very frequent, so I’m proclaiming myself an expert when it comes to getting dressed without thinking. When you’re indoors in Hong Kong where the air conditioner is blasting at full power, you’re bound to get cold, even when it’s 35ºC outside. That’s why you can always count on an oversized jumper – even on those counterintuitive days.

Introducing the classic piece: the Oversized Jumper (link here), something everyone should have in their wardrobe. My personal go-to shade is a grey colour for days I just want to blend in with the crowd. And really, you can get an oversized jumper at any price range depending on the brand, anywhere from a couple of bucks to a lot of ka-ching. Mine was purchased years ago from H&M at an XS size, but somehow through the years, it’s been stretched and stretched to what it is now in the washing machine lol…
Cropped denim jeans
I’ve shown off my cropped denims in several blog posts before, including my all-pink attire and my guide on wearing a long coat. It’s proving to be a versatile piece! For the casual, everyday look, my Basic Slim Jeans (link here) from Zara Kids is the perfect accompaniment to the oversized jumper. You’re not going to regret getting a pair of cropped jeans yourself if you haven’t already – probably not from the kids’ section like me, though – because they work well with any outfit.
To round off an uninspired day, forget the heels and pull on some comfortable trainers. I rotate between a few pairs, and my pick to go with the oversized jumper is the Nike Air Force 1‘s (link here). Go ahead, put those blister-inducing stilettos away and feel free to stretch your toes. Isn’t it great to actually walk properly for once?
I was going out to #getshitdone and had to carry my laptop with me, so I opted for a bigger bag, namely, the Black Backpack (link here) from H&M. Funny story: one of my coworkers has a bag that looks exactly the same as this, but guess what… he got his for 10 times the price at a vintage store. Granted, his is real leather, but for the basic lazy day, you can just sling on any cheap old backpack. Nobody’s judging.
There’s nothing revolutionary about this outfit and I bet you’ve worn a variation of it yourself too. But, the last thing you need when you feel brain-dead in the early morning is to dither on about what to dress in for the day. So if you’re not going anywhere special, take my advice, and put on an oversized jumper. Let me know in the comments what you think of this outfit!
