Instagram Pier? Been there, done that. Victoria Harbour? Bor-ing! These hotspots in Hong Kong are well known for their beautiful views, but they’re also overrated and way too crowded. That’s why I’ve been looking for alternatives, and after a few days scrolling through the good ol’ Instagram, I think I’ve finally found a gem. Introducing Quarry Bay Promenade!
You heard right, I’m talking about Quarry Bay Promenade. Now, before you raise your eyebrows and question my sanity, I’d like to explain: there are gems in every corner, if you take the time to look for them. Quarry Bay Promenade is more than just a seaside stroll for the family. You’ll be surprised to find yourself in the presence of countless joggers enjoying their daily run and cheery fishermen waiting patiently for their lines to catch. It’s a community like no other.

Quarry Bay Promenade
Quarry Bay Promenade stretches along Hong Kong Island’s Eastern District, stemming from Quarry Bay Park all the way to North Point. It’s not usually a place where you’d go for Instagram photos. The abundance of housing estates lining the seaside means there is never a shortage of people taking an afternoon walk or fishing at the water’s edges. But if you look hard enough, you’ll begin to see the beauty of Quarry Bay Promenade through the joggers, families and fishermen. The mishmash of city and nature is no doubt photogenic as heck.
Quarry Bay Promenade may be one of the more outdoorsy areas of Hong Kong, but as long as you’re in the city, you’ll never really escape the urban aspects of the giant metropolis. Nearing the end of the promenade towards North Point, you’ll find Island Eastern Corridor, an expressway joining Chai Wan to Causeway Bay. Plant yourself right under the colossal structure. The expressway’s framework has a certain rawness that is beauty to be admired.
Hong Kong may be famous for its blueprint skyscraper skyline, but that doesn’t mean that there is no remainder of nature in the everyday. Quarry Bay Promenade is the place to see stunning vistas of the sea across to the New Territories. Go on a good day and take full advantage of the view, and don’t forget to snap a few photos for the ‘Gram while you’re at it.
If you’re on the lookout for Instagram-worthy spots in Hong Kong, you can definitely do better than just Instagram Pier. I didn’t walk into Quarry Promenade knowing I would come out with a batch of beautiful photos. It happened just by chance. Finally, do find time to visit Quarry Bay Promenade and make sure to do it justice in your seaside snaps!
